about

Confronted by my limited environment and my creative isolation, I found a disconnect between the things I could hear in my head and the materials in front of me. I delved into the machine in order to try to fill in these gaps. In order to go beyond. I studied artists like Brian Wilson and Eno. People who saw the recording equipment and the process as its own instrument. This potential to invent new worlds out of nothingness. To merge nature and technology in loving harmony.

These sometimes disjointed recordings represent this side of things. These were all made between 2004 and 2007 in a small studio apartment using a computer, a few instruments, and a $20 drugstore microphone. All songs were written and recorded by Jonathan Deschamps except "Island" which was originally written and recorded by A Passing Fancy in 1968. "Pillow Whispers" was made in collaboration with Ian Price AKA the Naturebot.

The title, "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace" comes from a poem with the same title written by Richard Brautigan in 1967.

Original Polaroid by Jessica Gring and manipulated by Jonathan Deschamps.

This music is best listened to in its entirety, alone in a bedroom, without thought.
